George McCutcheon: 1955 Chevrolet

With only a year in the seat of his beautiful yellow 55 Chevy, George McCutcheon is slowly starting to come to grips with the beast that is blown alcohol racing. Early passes made for some great photographic opportunities as George tried his best to show all sides and angles of his shoebox to the trackside photographers, but to his credit he kept it off the walls and for the most part in his own lane. With seat time comes confidence and as George's grows, so his elapsed times have dropped, right down into the low 7 second range already, perfect for the pointy end of Wild Bunch Racing.

If you think well there's another car that seems awfully familiar, that's because aside from the Tynan 55, this version probably has more laps on it than most cars will see in a lifetime. More famous or infamous in its previous baby blue hue, George's 55 is indeed the ex Craig Brown/Murray Smith car. Its been on fire, into the wall and on its roof but with the bad there has been an awful lot of good, dipping into the 6 second range and consistently going rounds for years and there's no reason the later part cant continue in Georges capable hands.

Kumeu Classic Car and Hot Rod Festival Wild Bunch Wars is perfect for what is essentially one of the survivors, one of the original cars from the first go around of the Wild Bunch. With 525 cubic inches of supercharged big block Chev backed by a 4 speed Lenco, the power is there and with companies like John Ryan Plumbing, Signbiz and M C Flooring behind him, the hard to miss yellow 55 will be a fan favourite gauranteed.

Along with wife Kim and the entire Insane Racing crew, George has the car to go rounds Sunday, and with a DYO format he has a good a chance as any. Either way, make sure you pop by the pits and check out his wicked cool matching tow car, you wont be disappointed.
