Jan started drag racing 33 years ago (78-79 season), in a Valiant Pacer, when 18 years old. He then progressed to racing Dick Legge's altered with his brother Karl during the 1980s. The altered started with a carburettored 331 Chevrolet motor. It was then upgraded with a methanol carburettor, followed by a 6/71 supercharger and bird catcher fuel injection.

Jan then had children and raced a street 1957 Chev for a few years, before teaming up with Paul Bloemsaat to race Allen Lim's Thunderbird. In 2013, Jan won Supercharged Outlaws at the IHRA Nationals.
