Wayne started drag racing in 1980. He raced a Top Alcohol dragster and two Top Alcohol funny cars before turning his attention to Top Doorslammer. Wayne has won the Nationals twice, once in Top Alcohol and in 2012 in Top Doorslammer. He has also won the points series once and the Blown Doorslammer Challenge series once. In 2014 he became the quickest and fastest doorslammer driver in New Zealand, recording a 6.160 second pass at 235.89 mph at the 2014 Nitro Shootout, which he also won.
